  • Description

Ko Phi Phi Hospital, also known as Phi Phi Don Hospital, is a crucial facility on Phi Phi Island, providing medical services to both residents and visitors. Here’s an overview:

Overview

Location: The hospital is situated in the center of Phi Phi Don, making it accessible for those in need of medical care.
Services Offered
Emergency Care: The hospital provides emergency medical services, which is essential given the island’s popularity with tourists.
General Medicine: Services include treatment for minor injuries, illnesses, and routine check-ups.
Pharmacy: There is a pharmacy on-site where visitors can obtain medications and basic health supplies.

Facilities

Basic Healthcare: While the hospital may not have extensive facilities like larger urban hospitals, it is equipped to handle common medical needs and emergencies.
Staff: The hospital typically employs both local doctors and staff trained in emergency care, ensuring that patients receive appropriate treatment.

Accessibility

Emergency Response: In cases of serious medical emergencies, the hospital may coordinate with local boat services to transfer patients to larger hospitals in Krabi or Phuket.
Insurance: It’s advisable for travelers to have travel insurance that covers medical care, as costs can be higher for tourists.

Familiarize Yourself: It’s a good idea to know the location of the hospital and its services before you need them, especially if you’re engaging in activities like diving or hiking.

Basic Supplies: Consider bringing basic medical supplies or medications, especially for minor issues, as options may be limited.

Conclusion

Ko Phi Phi Hospital plays a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of both locals and tourists on the island. While it may not have the extensive resources of larger hospitals, it provides essential services and care for common medical needs.

This is a belated review, as I visited the hospital in April 2023, so I cannot say if there are any changes or developments now. We had to go there, as my wife got scratched by a cat when she was playing with it. The hotel owners pacified us saying that it’s fine and they get scratched everyday and the cat definitely does not have rabies. Since we also have two cats, we thought we will just get an antiseptic cleaning liquid and just clean the wound and move on. But as abundant caution and peace of mind we decided to get the rabies shots. The Hospital is a small clinic kind of hospital, please don’t expect state of the art facilities or treatment. Equipped for treating all the minor accidents that can happen during a trip etc with consulting doctors. They have an exclusive desk to help tourists with insurance claims and documentation required for that. We have also claimed our insurance using the documents provided by them. Also, it was definitely expensive for rabies shots as it came to some 7500 Bhat. Since we had travel insurance, we are not complaining about that.

No doctor during night time and very unprofessional people. If you are really sick or hurt during night better call emergency number. If you go there you will be dying until doctor come at 10am. Additionally the hospital is full of mosquitos i mean really full. Horrible experience

I stood on a sea urchin and had lots of spines in my foot. The doctor I saw was extremely rude and reluctant to help. In the end she cleaned my foot and hit the spines that were outside the skin for 1200 Bhat. I went to clinic in Koh Lanta who informed me the spines should have been removed immediately. Due to this poor treatment, I have lost 4kg, have a fever and am on antibiotics, painkillers and medicine to improve my appetite. DO NOT GO HERE!

I went in due to food poisoning, very dehydrated. I received excellent and quick relief, they were extremely kind and caring. I received a lot of medicines for later and arranged everything with the insurance company. I am extremely satisfied with them. Thank you so much for all.

I needed a rabies vaccine and got it within 15 mins. Extremely wonderful staff. They processed my insurance documents well. This hospital is more affordable. I went to a take care clinic and was asked to pay 13k Bhat. Here it was only 3.5k.

Unfortunately I came to see an obstetrician and they don’t have any obstetrics in here or any other hospital in the island, if you’re pregnant you’ll need to go either to Krabi or Phuket, in this hospital they just have a doctor to do general check ups. The lady in the entry it was quite helpful anyway.

My girlfriend had a a chicken kebab roll prior to boarding the ferry to go Phi Phi island, and the following day she was hospitalised and spent majority of her time laying in the hotel. The hospital in phi phi islands was a complete rip off too but what can you do when you find yourself in desperation. They charged us £250 for 3-4 hours of being there with very poor attention give to her during that stay... I had to constantly go looking for someone to be attentive... the hospital had absolutely no patients there at the time either.. what do you expect in an island with a population of 3000 people max. We left the hospital, being given paracetamol, blood test and a bottle of drip feed... ridiculous to pay £250. The worst thing is that majority of the fee charged (4000 baht)was for their service which was non existent. Absolutely appalling. Please get private care as it will cost you around the same, don’t go to the local hospital if it’s an emergency... the staff spend more time on Instagram then working. You could see them j Disgusted. Yet tourists get blamed for coming to Thailand and not respecting the place itself. Locals lack the real self respect at times... Double check always, we have now learnt our lesson.
