I’ll be as rational and careful as I can with this review. If I’d written it during our stay I’d be livid but I’ve had a bit of time to reflect 😅||Ultimately, we were left deeply unhappy with our stay at LongDoo. The photos from Agoda are fairly misleading, as the “hostel” is one living room-sized room with 12 bunk beds, a desk in the porch as you enter and a bathroom area at the back. The proprietor of LongDoo seemed to be sleeping 24/7 in one of the bunks herself, as nobody was at the desk when we arrived at about 4pm. When she woke up I assumed she was a fellow guest, but she checked us in, showed us to our bed and left us to it (fine).|| We booked 2 nights in the lower Queen bunk capsule, which from minute one we noticed was dirty and unclean. The floor just in front of the capsule was filthy and sticky which isn’t ideal for bare feet, and on the duvet were what looked either like beard shavings or small wings from insects? Not great. Also we felt that the capsule in general smelt dank and musty. However, as we’re travelling on a budget we didn’t feel entitled to complain too much at this point honestly.||However, as we’d settled into bed later that night and we’d turned the light out, I was setting an alarm on my phone as I felt something fluttering and touching my side. I assumed it was a mosquito so turned on my phone torch, to find that *dozens* of TERMITES had appeared seemingly from nowhere and had infested the bed. As I write this I’m still none the wiser as to where they came from; it could’ve been from the ceiling, from under the mattress, from one of our pillows, who knows honestly. We jumped out, calmed ourselves down and ended up disturbing 3 other guests in the process (we’re so sorry to you if you’re reading this! 💙). It’s worth mentioning at this point, no one else we were staying with had experienced this; they were staying in single bunk capsules which is where we decided to move to at this point. A couple of guests mentioned to us, however, that they’d noticed cockroaches and (potentially) mice even.||My girlfriend was understandably reluctant to stay in the hostel _at all_ after that, and we didn’t get more than 2 hours’ sleep for the rest of the night in fear of a similar occurrence. At least we needed to be up early the next morning for a boat trip!||The next morning, I messaged the WhatsApp group to say that we’d moved to 2 single beds during the night. I had a video of the termites on the bed from that night but didn’t send it to the group as I thought that was in bad taste and didn’t want to deter other guests; this could’ve been a completely freak occurrence in fairness to them, but we didn’t get that impression based off of the cleanliness of the hostel in general. We had a reply asking which beds we’d moved to and from, which I answered, and that was it in terms of correspondence!||When we returned later that day, we woke up the proprietor again to explain that we weren’t happy at all with what happened last night. The bed area in general was unclean, smelly and the bug infestation capped it all off and we wanted at least a partial refund for this. This wasn’t entertained at all. She explained that *she had heard* what went on as it happened that night - we didnt go to her at the time as it was late, but if she was awake and aware I was pretty annoyed that she didn’t try and help us - and that it was fine that we had moved to single bunks. That was pretty much the end of the conversation; we were shocked at the lack of a reaction and, in fact, as I recall back to it, we didn’t receive any sort of apology for the experience *at all*. There seemed to be an attitude of “what am I supposed to do about it?” and so we’d resigned ourselves to that. We peered into the Queen bunk we’d vacated about 18 hours earlier and the bed hadn’t been touched at all, clearly.||Again, I have to be rational; we’re travelling on a budget, we didn’t pay a fortune for our stay. We did end up staying for 2 nights despite our frightening experience of the first night. On our second night mind you, we didn’t sleep at all either 😂 this was because of torrential rain causing a power cut, and the electronic door system beeped all throughout the night as it’s power supply was cut off. Nobody’s fault obviously, but didn’t exactly make us feel better about the stay 😂||In summary (if you’re still reading):||- our Queen bunk experience was terrifying|- the service and reaction from the proprietor was (to us) non-existent and she ought to be embarrassed|- the level of cleanliness was severely lacking in the sleeping area|- the toilet and bathroom facilities were actually fine and, along with its location, the redeeming features of this hostel|- I’m disappointed we didn’t get a refund of sorts, but having stayed for the 2 nights I’m not surprised that we didn’t receive one||All in all, Koh Phi Phi was simply amazing, but there’s no doubt that this experience tainted our stay
