Uphill Cottage is a quaint, budget-friendly accommodation on Phi Phi Island, offering a peaceful retreat for travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the island’s busier areas. Nestled on a hillside, the property provides guests with lovely views, a quiet atmosphere, and a comfortable place to relax after a day of island exploration.

Accommodations

The rooms at Uphill Cottage are simple yet functional, offering a comfortable stay for budget-conscious travelers. Each room comes with basic amenities such as air conditioning or fans, a private bathroom, and a small terrace or balcony. The cottages are built in a traditional Thai bungalow style, giving the place a rustic, charming feel. While the rooms are generally clean, some guests have noted that the interiors could use a little updating, especially in terms of furnishings and bathroom fixtures.

Ambiance and Experience

The resort’s hillside location ensures a peaceful and quiet environment, far from the noise of the island’s nightlife. Guests often mention the serenity of the surroundings, which are filled with greenery and tropical plants. The tranquil ambiance makes Uphill Cottage an ideal spot for those seeking rest and relaxation. However, the climb to the cottages can be challenging due to the steep stairs, which might be tiring for those with heavy luggage or mobility issues. Despite this, most guests agree that the serene atmosphere and views are worth the effort.

Service

The staff at Uphill Cottage is frequently praised for their friendliness and helpful attitude. Guests appreciate the personalized attention and the staff’s willingness to assist with tour bookings, transportation, and providing local recommendations. Although service is generally positive, some visitors have mentioned that during peak times, response times can be a bit slower.

Location

Uphill Cottage is situated a short walk from the main village and Loh Dalum Beach, providing convenient access to both the island’s dining and entertainment options as well as quieter, more secluded areas. The location offers the best of both worlds—close enough to the action yet far enough to ensure a peaceful stay. The climb to the property may be a challenge for some, but it also allows for better views of the surrounding landscape.

Overall

Uphill Cottage is a great choice for travelers seeking an affordable and quiet place to stay on Phi Phi Island. The rustic charm of the cottages, combined with the tranquil hillside setting, makes it a perfect spot for those looking to unwind in nature. While the steep stairs can be challenging, the peaceful ambiance, friendly staff, and proximity to the beach and village make Uphill Cottage a worthwhile option for budget travelers who don’t mind a little adventure in exchange for a serene retreat.

After reading some reviews I was a little skeptical booking a room here, but honestly it was better than we expected. Staff was very friendly and showed us to our room. Yes, you have to climb few stairs, but we were aware of that and didn’t mind it. View from the room paid it off! It’s a bit on the side and away from the main streets, which we liked, although we could still hear the music banging till early morning hours - not their fault. It’s a party place for a lot if ppl 🤷🏼‍♀️ Room was very clean, bathroom could use an upgrade and there was a bit mold in the shower, but for the price we paid we didn’t mind it as much. Overall good experience :)

Very nice hotel. Reception staff were very friendly when checking in. Hotel staff met us at the pier after getting off the ferry and brought our bags to the hotel which was about a 5/10min walk away. Pool is small but nice for a dip to cool off. Location is ideal as it is central but also far enough away that it isn’t too noisy at night. Easily walkable to all the main areas. Our room was one of the highest ones which gave a great view but like everyone else has mentioned, did involve going up lots of stairs. Wouldn’t complain about this since you’re well aware that it’s the case prior to booking but if you are someone who would find lots of stairs difficult it may not be the best choice. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Good value for money on a particularly expensive tourist destination. It was quiet compared to the rest of phi phi. The staff were lovely and the rooms were spacious ans comfortable. They also gave us a free upgrade.

Hello! How to start this review? I think it would be good if started saying. Kob-kun-mag. 🙏🏻 I couldn’t be more grateful to the staff of the hotel. They put me in a very good room, provide information and more! And they are very friendly and helpful. Would come back for sure.

The hostel owner(cleaner) is so aggresive. Cursing me for asking another towel. Would not recommend at all, there are better places to sleep in this amazing island

Aptly named! Comfy rooms, once you make it there... I stayed in 29, which was up about 150ish somewhat steep stairs. Good views from the balcony, though. Friendly staff who offered to help with carrying my bags. You can still hear a bit of the beach party nonsense way up there, but it's not loud enough to keep me awake. Had I not been pretty active and had early mornings doing scuba (or partying) I'd consider staying there again, but the trek is certainly significant. Just be sure you don't forget something in your room if you stay up top 🤔

We booked this accommodation for 6 nights over the New Year period. The photos looked great, and the location seemed perfect for us. Upon checking in, we were told that the pool was not ready, but it would be fine the following day. Considering we booked this accommodation specifically for the pool, this was rather frustrating. The following day, the pool was still a swamp like bog that was a complete heath hazard! We asked at reception, and they simply shrugged their shoulders and said they're trying to fix it and it would be useable the following day. The following day (day 3 of a 6 day stay), the pool was still a biohazard! The response from the staff was disgusting. We were told that if we wanted a pool, we would need to move to a new hotel. We looked around and due to the timings of our visit everything was booked or out of our budget. When we told the reception staff that we would be leaving early and required a refund for the 3 nights that we would no longer be staying, they point blank refused to refund us. We ended up leaving the island 3 days early at a considerable expense. The attitude of the staff in this resort is despicable! The rooms are nice (once you've walked up the 130 steps to get to them) but be warned that the noise is unbearable! The music from the beach WILL keep you awake until 3am every night. In my opinion you're best to steer well clear of this place, it's a shambles!

The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. They will meet you are the pier and take your bags and bring them to your room. There are no motorbikes or cars on the island, so you have to walk everywhere. They will also take your bags back to the pier on the day you leave. I wish I could give a higher review because the room is simple and clean and the staff if very friendly and helpful, but there are some negatives. Depending what room you are in, you might be in for quite the steep hike up stairs to your room. The trade off is the incredible view. Also, the way the rooms are made, you can here everything outside the room. There is loud music on the island until about 3am sometimes and you will hear it clear as day.

You get what you pay for. Value for money. Friendly and helpful service. View was beautiful. Location is a bit of a hike! But it was away from the crowds but not too far at the same time! Bathroom served is purpose, bed was clean, had a balcony. Like I said, you get what you pay for. Value for money. I would recommend it to a backpacker who wants a break from hostels. Staff were great. Thanks guys.
